What: The Poutine Press is a journal composed of potentially all forms of [non-]expression. Begun c. 2003 by Bishop's University students as a feminist zine hoping to raise awareness to issues that were being neglected in mainstream media. Over the years it has evolved into a creative medley of thoughts, ideas, short stories, photographs, poetry, rants and raves. Who: Contributors are from all walks of life, retired folk, farmers, students, workers and children.
Where: Using the media of collages & photocopiers, it is distributed for free in and around Lennoxville, Sherbrooke.
Why: Why not?!? We feel it is important to participate in alternative forms of media. This is an experiential learning project.
Each edition is made up by different people...it evolves, it transforms and reflects the views of no one person, organization, government or editing body. If you have a problem with a story, image or critique, we encourage you to voice your concern and we will address it as a community of creative thinkers and problem-solvers.
We encourage people to take the risk of expressing themselves

Cultural Kitchen
The Culture Kitchen embodies our founding principles: to embrace cultural diversity through uniting people on shared interests rather than difference, and to share skills to foster reciprocal relations and engage in healthy, mindful activities to nurture the intrinsic drive to pursue one's interests.
The purpose of the Cultural Kitchen is to offer an activity dedicated to practicing a modern language (Italian, German, Japanese and Spanish) by learning how to cook a traditional meal. Traditional academic spaces for language acquisition cover grammatical, written and comprehension of literature as a means to assess student learning. This project will offer an interactive space for self-motivated learners in the Modern Languages Department to bring their language to life while exploring traditional cuisine.
This activity is designed to be facilitated by two proficient speakers where one oversees the cooking component while the other actively engages students to practice their conversation skills and pronunciation, while peeling potatoes or chopping up carrots.

Study in Action : Creating Constructive Learning Environments
The Cultural Kitchen facilitates our intention to weave the Township communities together through hosting activities that encourage individuals to take the lead in their acquisition and sharing of skills, knowledge and social life. For years we have dreamed of offering linguistic cooking classes but did not have the means or network to offer such a specialized program. Using language and cuisine as the uniting interest, the Cultural Kitchen is a constructive social activity that encourages students to create for themselves an active-based learning environment that removed from academic pressures and peer competition to practice their language skills
Since Tierra del Fuego exists to create opportunities for people to unite over their shared interests, the Cultural Kitchen's intention is to foster an active-based learning environment removing pressure and competition from the student's learning experience.
